Why I Work at Dogs for Better Lives: Jenny Nickelson

Jenny Nickelson,
Client Services Field Representative

I chose to work at Dogs for Better lives because of the opportunity to fulfill my desire to help people and animals, and to create a better world for both. I am thankful to have the opportunity to give back!

Originally from “Cajun Country”, better known as Louisiana, I joined DBL in 2012 as an Apprentice Trainer. I worked my way up to Certified Assistance Dog Trainer, and more recently joined the Client Services department.

I have been training dogs professionally for more than 10 years. After school, I started a private dog training business and have always been fascinated by animal behavior. Growing up, I volunteered at animal shelters, and always fed the stray animals that came around my home and I have a natural connection with all animals I encounter. I live by my favorite quote:

“Love the earth and sun and animals, despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others…And your very flesh shall be a great poem.”– Walt Whitman

Jenny lives in Jacksonville, Oregon with her pets Remy and Sage. When not helping to pair Assistance Dogs with clients, Jenny enjoys hiking, gardening, photography, music, camping and training her dog to do fun tricks.
